Why Solar

The Sun Outshines Its Rivals

Solar energy to most people can appear to be confusing and rather complicated, but in essence Solar energy is about harnessing the brilliant power of the Sun to replace typical energy sources and converting the sunlight in to electricity or thermal energy for water heating, solar power is free, clean and green. The Earths natural resources are rapidly being depleted and the use of non-renewable energy sources is contributing to global warming and destroying the planet for the next generation.

The Energy Cube

Our systems can immediately help lower your carbon footprint and reduce your impact on the environment, an average size Photovoltaic system (PV) will save just over one tonne of CO2 a year, that's equal to flying 1864 miles or driving from London to Moscow. To offset 1 tonne of CO2 you would have to plant 46 trees, and over a systems lifetime it's the equivalent of 9375 energy saving light bulbs.

To meet the EU target of 20% from Renewable Energy by 2020, the UK will have to fit PV to 1 in 38 homes. To help meet our national obligations to cut carbon emissions the government has launched a financial incentive to get more homeowners and businesses to generate power from renewable energy.

The incentive is known as 'Feed in Tarrif' (FIT) or 'UK Energy Cashback Scheme' and was launched in April 2010. This tariff provides PV micro generators with a guaranteed income for 25 years, what's more its tax free and index linked (rising with inflation).

The government has also committed to the introduction of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). This will apply to our Solar Thermal (ST) hot water systems and in principle it will work in the same way as the PV Feed In Tariff.

The UK receives around 70% of the solar radiation levels experienced in Spain, this means we receive more than enough solar radiation to make both our PV and ST systems extremely viable – they will even work in cloudy and low light conditions.
